
About Me

Hello, my name is Tara. You are very welcome to my counselling page. I am a pre-accredited (IACP) counsellor and psychotherapist. I hold a BSc (Hons) in Counselling & Psychotherapy from Cork Counselling Services Training Institute & Coventry University.
My training was blended, balancing theory with practical experience. It was rooted in models such as the person-centred approach, existentialism and gestalt therapy. The integrative approach means I draw from many techniques, depending upon the needs of the person sitting in front of me.
I have spent the past number of years working as a psychotherapist in a busy community based counselling service in Cork city centre. I also have experience in working in the homeless and the not-for-profit sector. Prior to becoming a therapist, I spent many years volunteering in a charity whose focus was on suicide prevention.
I work under the ethical framework of the Irish Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy, of which I am a member.


Counselling Services
The Humanistic and Person Centred approach view the client as the expert on their own lives and well being. As such, therapy is viewed as something done with a client as opposed to to them. In my work, I act as a facilitator and mirror in which we work together to develop the insight and awareness that is necessary to bring about change and healing in one's life. I have experience in working with areas such as, but not limited to, trauma, grief, abuse, depression, anxiety, and relationship issues.
In this fast paced world, life can often feel overwhelming. Therapy offers a safe and confidential space in which one can take pause and reflect on their experiences and the impact of such. In my work I provide a non-judgemental and compassionate place where one can take the time to explore their ways of being, their relationships with others and their relationship with themselves.
When trying to find a therapist, many people can often not know where to start. Most therapists (including myself) offer an inital consultation, in which we can see if we are a fit for each other. I recommend taking us up on this offer, as well as trusting your gut and own instinct. It is important to be comfortable with the therapist that you chose to work with.
